Lindsay Miles

What do you feel is your best piece of work?

I want to say my 2007 Facebook posts like “hey what are you doing tonight?” “so tired, can’t study” and “bored”. There is something beautiful about the utter snore of Facebook before direct messaging.

What music have you been listening to lately?

I’m very bad at listening to music these days but, when I do, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Lee Morgan are some of my faves. I have Tidal because I’m a freak, and I like their “Berghain Panorama Bar” and “Rising: Electronic” playlists too.

What’s in your fridge right now?

Day-old McCain fries… I gotta throw those out.

Have you ever failed at something you care about?

For sure! Do I want to talk about it? No!

Favourite photo you’ve taken?

It was either a photo of garbage or a photo of a beach hut. A couple examples below.

Which season is the best?

Summer. I adore the heat and taking my van baby out on the open road.

Least favourite household chore?

You know how the inside of garbage cans get so gross? I do NOT like scrubbing those.

Best outfit you’ve ever worn?

Probably my navy blue suit with a white shirt, silver tie and pocket square my lovely roommate bought me in France. I wore this outfit to my very talented writer friend Jacquelyn Zong-Li Ross' wedding. I looked good.

Do you like to write in the morning or at night?

Morning all the way. I’m a zombie at night.

When did you first receive praise for your writing?

In grade eleven, I had a piece about a sex worker being hassled by the police in the school’s creative writing anthology. The teacher liked it.

What do you consider to be your first rejection?

Alex White. Even though I originally rejected him citing sports (him) and music (me) as the seat of our irreconcilable differences, I immediately regretted it and he was immediately dating someone else. Grade eight was weird.

Latest book you’ve read or favourite book ever?

I’m reading Don DeLillo’s Libra right now and liking it a lot. I love myself a CIA conspiracy.

Anything you’d like to promote?
Edeltraut! My chapbook with Anstruther Press just came out. Check her out at http://www.anstrutherpress.com/#/edeltraut-by-lindsay-miles/.
