Fawn Parker

“I work under the stairs in the living room. I like the smallest place possible.”

What do you feel is your best piece of work?

I think the poems I wrote for my mom are my favourite work I’ve done but maybe not the best…

What music have you been listening to lately?

Unfortunately, I recently listened to that bad man John Lennon.

What’s in your fridge right now?

Almond butter, almond milk, leftover rice, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, hot sauce, more things but I can’t remember.

Who is the last character you related to and why?

The absent woman in the Sex & the City comeback.

Have you ever failed at something you care about?

Academia.

What was the last gift you received?

Very beautiful wedding gifts including a nice candle from my friend Sophie McCreesh.

What is your favourite photo you’ve taken?

A photo of the river that I took out of my bedroom window in Fredericton.

Best season?

Spring!

What is your least favourite household chore?

Cleaning around those weird knobs at the base of the toilet.

Best outfit?

Levi’s and a t-shirt maybe because when I dress up it reminds me of that expression that maybe I don’t remember all the way… putting lipstick on a pig?

Do you like to write in the morning or at night?

Morning all the way unless I’m completely alone with a glass of wine.

When did you first receive praise for your writing?

In grade 11 writing class by my teacher who said, “You’re a writer!” in a sort of cinematic New Yorker kind of way.

What was your first rejection?

Prairie Fire when I was sixteen, haha.

Latest book you’ve read or favourite book ever?

I’m reading Native Speaker by Chang-Rae Lee right now.

Anything you’d like to promote?

My new book comes out on May 3rd!
