Cody Caetano

What do you feel is your best piece of work?

Time will prove whether I’ve peaked or not, but I always get excited about the next project because I am bringing all the previous experiences with me into it.

What music have you been listening to lately?

Jean-Michel Blais, Amyl and The Sniffers, HAIM, Harry Styles, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, J-Dilla, The Fact, Wavy Green, Tommy Kill, a lot of ambient music, and old Fall Out Boy, always.

What’s in your fridge right now?

Brita, egg flight, carrots, green onions, tofu, sausages, bacon, sauces, butter, thyme, garlic, shallots, ginger, cilantro, and half-and-half cream. For now.

Who is the last character you related to and why?

Tookie from The Sentence by Louise Erdrich. She’s a real one.

Have you ever failed at something you care about?

Constantly! Every single day.

Last gift you received?

Waking up this morning, a few hour-long phone calls, a couple good meal and drink dates. My friends and family spoiled me with their company and thoughtful gifts for my birthday.

Favourite photo you’ve taken?

Deep cuts of Clover and Louis, maybe. Will send some along.

Which season is the best?

The transition from spring to summer. Right now. Everybody is living it up.

Least favourite household chore?

Unclogging the sink.

Best outfit?

Two-piece suit from Sydney’s on Queen and a shirt and tie from my friend Trei. if I had to go with just one, I’d go with a white undershirt and nice pair of pants. I feel good wearing it and it is reliable.

Do you like to write in the morning or at night?

As long I am energized and caught up with work and have procrastinated for at least thirty minutes by tidying up and changing the litter and stretching and flossing and whatever else I got to do, I’m good to go! But probably evening.

When did you first receive praise for your writing?

From Mrs. Dinniwell in Grade 10, I believe. She gave me a 90% on my Grade 10 poetry ISU. Reflecting on it, it was basically me trying to ape Tyler, The Creator’s 2010 era. But she told me I should pursue writing. And then another few teachers told me the same thing.

What do you consider to be your first rejection?

The “Social Media Guy” job for S-Trip. I wanted that job so badly lol.

Latest book you’ve read or favourite book ever?

To Paradise by Hanya Yanigihara. Middle section is a well-done epistolary reflection on parenthood and loyalty and failure.

Anything you’d like to promote?

HBIWR!!
